In February 2013, Kilby Davis was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). Further testing for the cause of her cardiomyopathy showed a very rare genetic disease…Danon Disease.
Kilby is 15 years old and she received an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) on April 23rd 2014. An ICD is a small device that’s placed in the chest or abdomen. Doctors use the device to help treat irregular heartbeats called arrhythmias. An ICD uses electrical pulses or shocks to help control life-threatening arrhythmias, especially those that can cause sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).
Kilby and her parents are currently finishing the process to have her placed on the Recipient’s List for a new heart through Levine’s Children Hospital in Charlotte NC.
